Neuroaffirming Therapy

Understanding Yourself, Not Changing Who You Are

At Maple Psychology, we provide neuroaffirming therapy for autistic, ADHD, and other neurodivergent children, adolescents, and adults. We recognise that every person’s brain is unique, and there is no one “right” way to think, communicate, learn, or experience the world.

Rather than viewing neurodivergence as something that needs to be fixed, we understand it as a natural variation of human experience. Therapy focuses on understanding your unique profile, recognising your strengths, identifying areas of challenge, and developing practical supports that help you thrive in everyday life.

Many neurodivergent people spend years feeling misunderstood or trying to fit into environments that weren’t designed with their needs in mind. This can lead to masking, chronic stress, anxiety, burnout, low self-esteem, and the feeling that they are “too much” or “not enough.” At Maple, therapy provides a space where you don’t need to pretend to be someone else. We want to understand who you are beneath the masking and support you in building a life that feels authentic and sustainable.

Whether you’re newly diagnosed, exploring your neurodivergent identity, supporting your child, or simply looking for practical strategies, our psychologists work collaboratively with you to identify meaningful goals and create an individualised therapy plan.

Every person’s journey is different. Some people come to therapy wanting to better understand themselves, while others are looking for support with emotional regulation, executive functioning, anxiety, relationships, school, work, or parenting. Therapy is flexible and adapts as your needs change over time.

Our approach

We understand that therapy isn’t one-size-fits-all. Our psychologists draw on a range of evidence-based approaches, including Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT), Compassion Focused Therapy (CFT), Internal Family Systems-informed approaches, mindfulness, and play-based interventions where appropriate.

Rather than expecting you to fit a particular therapy model, we adapt our approach to suit your strengths, learning style, sensory needs, communication preferences, and goals.

Above all, we believe therapy should leave you feeling more understood, not more judged. Our aim is to help you build a life that works with your brain, not against it.
