OCD
Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD) is more than liking things neat, organised or done a particular way. OCD involves unwanted thoughts, images, urges or feelings that create significant distress, alongside compulsions or rituals that a person feels driven to perform to reduce that distress or prevent something bad from happening.
Compulsions aren’t always visible. Alongside behaviours such as checking, cleaning or repeating, OCD can involve reassurance-seeking, avoidance, reviewing situations repeatedly in your mind, researching, confessing, counting or trying to achieve a feeling of certainty.
At Maple Psychology, therapy focuses on understanding the OCD cycle and gradually changing the patterns that keep it going. Support is individualised and evidence-based, while also considering the person’s broader experiences, including anxiety, perfectionism and neurodivergence where relevant.
